The artist has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was declared the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped locations that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and gear that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The idea that money from shows in large arenas supports the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

He is far from the only musician to donate his award winnings to worthy causes.

When Pulp earned the award in 1996 for their release the album, frontman Cocker declared that the band would contribute their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist split her award between several charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Previously, the band gave their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had rescued a couple of small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in the city and the other in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "shares" in the properties.
