The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Response
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined direction.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Key Recruitment
The news echoes a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our players.
The belief in this project increases every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. After some time of talks, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His management and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the months to follow.
David
