Uche Ignites Comfortable Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Despite embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.

A further victory in their upcoming fixture against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Grasp the Moment

This match offered a chance for some of Palace's fringe talent to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second game in match.

A Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were outmatched even for a largely rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.

Control Established from the Start

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A slick move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the protests.

Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's effort had struck the post.

The home side were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Game

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring with his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for improvement in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
